Toefl Writing: Should university professors spend more time doing research or spend more time educating students

Some people think university professors should spend more time doing research while others think they should spend more time educating students. What is your view?

What should a responsible professor do to fulfill their responsibility? Should they spend more time on doing research or on educating students? While lots of people believe that the university professors would better use more time on educating students, I absolutely hold a conserve attitude. The following points would suppport my idea.

First and foremost, a meaningful research provides these students more chance to use their theoretic knowledge in practice. As we known, it isn't benefit to students that only teach them theoretic knowledge, without providing any practical opportunities. As a consequence, those students would be lack in pragmatic experience. When they graduate from university they might be adapted to the work circumstance harder than those who have pragmatic experience. It is quite a good opportunity to work with their professor in the research. So, in this sense, doing research is really a worthy choice for a smart professor.

Actually, it is undeniable that a responsible professor should pay enough attention on his students' education. Whereas, there are kinds of teaching methods, such as multimedia teaching method, demonstration method, memorization method, recitation method,etc. The most useful method, I believe, is teaching students in practice. When the students work with their professor in certain research, the professor can give them direct and useful conduction, which is more meaningful to them than give them abstract concept in classroom. Then, in this case, doing research also contributes lots to the students.

Additionally, doing research can effectively exercise students' analysis ability through providing them more chances to solve puzzles by themselves. Analysis ability is quite vital for people's career development, which makes them to solve lots of problems in their work. To this point, doing research is also benefit to people's career development.

In the nutshell, doing research is quite well for both universities' professors and students. Professor should spend more time on them, without nelegcting their students' education.
